   Accomplishments

     Dr. Jean Malecki, has been Director of Palm Beach County Health
 Department since 1991 and a public health employee since 1981.
 She began her residency under Dr. C.L. Brumback who founded the
 department more than 50 years ago.

     Dr. Malecki has guided the Palm Beach County Health Department to
 many accomplishments:

  • Recipient of Outstanding Woman in Public Health from the University of South Florida for the year 2000.
     
  • Chairman for the Department of Preventive Medicine, Nova Southeastern University, College of Osteopathic Medicine.
     
  • Developed a comprehensive School Health Program called a "Nurse in Every School," a collaborative effort of foundations, hospitals and Health Care District.
     
  • Began a Children's Behavioral Health Project focusing on the assessment of behavioral health problems that can be referred to an appropriate provider for assistance. This is the first such program in the nation.
     
  • Received a grant from the Hartford Foundation to address the needs of the elderly in Palm Beach County called the OMEGA project.
     
  • Initiated the leadership to provide one of the most sophisticated and efficient Epidemiology services in the state.
     
  • Nationally, Dr. Malecki was selected to the second class of the Center for Disease Control's Public Health Leadership Institute of scholars. And has served as the President of the alumni organization of leadership graduates.

This is a low cost policy for residents of Palm Beach County who have no health insurance coverage or have lost their coverage for over 6 months.
