March is
National Nutrition Month®.
It’s a Matter of Fact.

New information about food and
nutrition appears everyday. You are exposed to everything from news
reports on scientific research to the latest trendy diet. The American
Dietetic Association (ADA) urges consumers to look beyond the misleading
nutrition information and focus on the facts.
You can check the nutrition fact labels on packages to make
your best selection for portion size, calories or a single nutrient like
sodium. For example, a ½ cup scoop of ice cream can vary from 110 calories
to over 250 calories. The nutrition information provided at fast food
restaurants can be utilized to make your choices there. The USDA Food
Guide Pyramid at
www.mypyramid.gov
is another excellent source of information.
Sifting through the complex food and nutrition research can
be complicated. A registered and licensed dietitian can translate the
science and tailor it into advice that fits an individual consumer’s
needs. During National Nutrition Month®, March 10 will be the first annual
Registered Dietitian Day.
The Palm Beach County Health Department will offer special
programs at each clinic and in the community during National Nutrition
Month®. Check the ADA website
