Dr. Jean Malecki, Director of the Palm Beach County Health Department and Dr. Marsha Fishbane, Director of School Health for the Department were both recently honored as Outstanding Women Physicians by the Palm Beach County Medical Society.
Dr. Malecki received the Leadership Award for promoting the involvement of women physicians in organized medicine, academia and throughout the profession. During the past year she has been named Chairman of the Preventive Medicine Department at Nova Universitys Medical School and Outstanding Woman in Public Health by the University of South Florida College of Public Health.
Dr. C.L. Brumback, retired Director of the Palm Beach County Health Department commented, It was a pleasure to nominate Dr. Malecki for this award as she is an example for all physicians, a proven leader and advocate of womens and other health issues both locally and nationally.
Dr. Fishbane received Distinguished Recognition for her efforts as a leader in School Health. Dr. Fishbane is credited with developing the medical protocol followed by all school nurses throughout Palm Beach County. In addition, Dr. Fishbane was influential in initiating the program that put a nurse in every Palm Beach County School and oversees sight, hearing and other health testing conducted in the schools as well as many preventive medicine programs like immunizations.
Dr. Fishbane received her Medical Degree in Pediatrics in Pennsylvania, has a Masters in Public Health and has been with the Palm Beach County Health Department 14 years.
