SAN ANTONIO, TX—Palm Beach County Health Department Director, Dr. Jean M. Malecki, was recognized with a Presidential Citation for outstanding service at the American College of Preventive Medicine conference Saturday February 23, 2002.
Dr. Dorothy S. Lane, President, ACPM said in her presentation to Dr. Malecki, “Your personal efforts to mobilize resources to contain the risk from anthrax and to communicate related events to the American public, national agents and the public health infrastructure, has met the ideals of physicians in our specialty and deserves recognition as exemplary.” The service award is presented to those public health physicians who provide leadership and in Dr. Malecki’s case, helped identify and control an act of terrorism.
Dr. Malecki has directed the Palm Beach County Health Department, the largest in the State of Florida Department of Health, since 1991. She has been recognized most recently for sounding the alarm in the anthrax related bioterrorism events of October, lectures nationally on issues such as AIDS, and managed care and Chairs the Department of Preventive Medicine at Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine.
