PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL-The Palm Beach County Health Department celebrated 25 years of service from its volunteers at a Dinner/Dance recently in West Palm Beach.
The volunteer service program provides donated goods and services to the individuals served by the Health Department. In all, these goodwill ambassadors contribute almost $10 million annually with their efforts on behalf of the people of Palm Beach County.
Recognized, as Volunteer of the Year, at this year's event, was Dr. Carl Brumback long considered the founder of the Health Department and instrumental in beginning the volunteer program 25 years ago. Brumback, 89, still volunteers his time assisting with the Public Health Residency Program and lectures on public health in our community.
Each of the six health centers recognized their own volunteer of the year. Receiving honors were: Saddie Ruggiero Lantana Health Center, Shirley Ricker Delray Health Center, Millie Siegel West Palm Beach Health Center, Esther Margraff of Broadway Health Center, Sherry Larese Jupiter Health Center and Mattie Walker Belle Glade Health Center.
Leadership within the volunteer organization was recognized with a special Leadership Award these people were: Karen Gramenz, Lantana, Etta Rosenfeld, Delray Beach, Pat Konefe, Jupiter, Syd Baron, West Palm Beach and Fr. John Mericantante, Belle Glade.
WPEC Channel 5 morning news anchor John Favole acted as Master of
Ceremonies and kept the 200 guests entertained with many of his news anecdotes.
