FLU SEASON IS COMING—TIME TO GET A
FLU SHOT

    PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL - With the flu season quickly approaching the Palm Beach County Health Department is reminding residents to make plans to get a flu shot during the next two months.

    “We are not anticipating the shortages of flu vaccine we experienced last year and are now encouraging all to make an appointment to get a flu shot with their doctor or other medical provider,” said Health Department Director Jean M. Malecki, MD, MPH. Beginning October 1, 2005 flu vaccine should be available throughout the county.

    Centers for Disease Control recommends the following get the flu shot before October 24 when all will become eligible.

  • Persons aged 65 and older
  • Long term care patients
  • Persons aged 2-65 with chronic health conditions
  • Children 6-23 months of age
  • Pregnant Women
  • Health Care Workers involved with direct patient care
  • Household contacts and out-of-home caregivers of children under 6 months

    Beginning October 24 the Health Department Clinics will be offering flu shots by appointment at all locations until December 30, 2005 on the following schedule.
 


    The Health Department has also made arrangements with Maxim Healthcare to offer flu shots at its clinics on Saturdays in October and November 5 for persons wishing to walk-in. The cost of the flu shot on these days will be $25. Clinic dates and times are:

  • October 1, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM West Palm Beach, 1150 45th Street
  • October 8, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM Jupiter, 6405 Indiantown Road
  • October 8, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM Delray Beach, 225 S. Congress
  • October 15, 22, 29 – 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM West Palm Beach, 1150 45th Street
  • November 5, 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM Lantana, 1250 Southwinds
