WEST PALM
BEACH, FL-
With Public Health week as
the backdrop the Palm Beach
County Health Department
introduced its new community
health initiative called
Mobilizing for Action
through Planning and
Partnerships (MAPP) today.
Health Department Director, Jean M. Malecki, M.D. said, “We
have now formed an
impressive leadership team
of representatives from
every aspect of our
community. It is this group
that will direct the
public’s health in Palm
Beach County over the next
10 years.” The team is
comprised of business
leaders, tourism
representatives, health
services organizations,
faith based organizations,
law enforcement, and the
community at large which are
all a part of the local
public health system.
As identified by the CDC the public health system has many
aspects and in the past many
of these entities were
focused on the goals and
strategies of their
organization without viewing
the entire community and how
it all works together. The
MAPP process is now being
implemented throughout the
United States and all 67
county’s in Florida to
engage the community
approach.
With the formation of the leadership team they were all asked
to vision what the health of
Palm Beach County should be
in 10 years. From those
visions a study has been
initiated that will gather
input from the entire
community on the quality of
life. People will be asked
their opinion on factors
that influence a healthy
community, health problems
they face, and numerous
other community health
issues.
According to Cindy Bartosek, Community Health Director at the
Health Department this data
will be compiled until June
then reviewed and formatted
by Health Planner Karen
Dodge, Ph.D. By September
all will be returned to the
leadership team for review
and implementation to the
community.
The survey will be available on the health department website
April 17 at
www.pbchd.com,
through the community
policing division of the
Sheriff’s office or by
calling the Palm Beach
County Health Department
community health division at
561-840-4500.
