ROYAL PALM BEACH, FL-The Community Health Division of the Palm Beach County Health Department has been taking a holistic approach to what makes this community healthy now and in the future. Three strategic issues have emerged:

  • How will the county consistently improve health outcomes of its residents?
  • How will quality, equitable, affordable and accessible health services be linked?
  • What can be done to create an affordable, safe and caring environment for all of our residents?

The last in the series of five workshops on how to create a healthy community with these strategic issues in mind, will take place February 28, from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Royal Palm Beach Cultural Center, 151 Civic Way. This workshop will cover two areas, People/Family, and Transportation/Travel and public input is welcome.

People and Family is hosted by Children’s Services Council, Palm Beach County Administration, and Area Agency on Aging with a look at individuals and families in an ideal community as being diverse and unified yet respecting individual autonomy. Members are participatory, culturally competent, family centered, pet friendly, enthusiastic helpful and peaceful. Transportation/Travel will be led by Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties, Palm Beach County Administration, and Metropolitan Planning Organization with a look at diverse transportation models that are environmentally friendly using alternative technology. Systems would allow people to travel efficiently and economically for work and leisure as well as allow for the efficient movement of goods and services.

The information collected from these workshops is being accumulated into goals and strategies. Final discussion and summation will take place at a public meeting on March 30 at 9:00 AM in the Clayton E. Hutcheson Agricultural Service Center, Hall A, 559 N. Military Trail, West Palm Beach.

The Community Health Division has been developing plans and strategies that will set the direction of health in our community over the next 10 years
