BEACH COUNTY, FL – One
in 42 blacks in the county
are positive for HIV/AIDS.
This alarming trend is true
in minority communities
throughout the United States
and National Black HIV/AIDS
Awareness Day was created to
stop this trend. On February
9 the Palm Beach County
Health Department in
conjunction with the
Minority AIDS Network will
be hosting an AIDS Awareness
Walk at the Wells Recreation
Center, Riviera Beach,
beginning at 8:00 am.
This year we are issuing a challenge to all agencies,
organizations, fraternities,
sororities Civic
Organizations, churches and
the like to participate in
the this walk, said the
Health Department’s Regional
AIDS Coordinator Lorenzo
Robertson. The group
generating the most number
of participants will also
receive a plaque
commemorating their efforts
to stop the spread of HIV.
In addition to the walk, Wells Recreation is sponsoring a
Health Fair from 10 AM to 2
PM followed by a Town Hall
Meeting with U.S.
Representative Alcee
Hastings at Hurst Chapel,
A.M.E. Church 1617 Silver
Beach Road.
Registration for the walk will begin at 7:00 AM on Saturday
the ninth. Persons can
