West Palm Beach, FL, - On February 1, 2008 the Palm Beach County Health Department is going to kick off Heart Month by asking all to support “Go Red Day”. This national movement is to increase the public’s awareness of the number one killer of American women, heart disease.

American women are four to six times more likely to die of heart disease than of breast cancer or all other cancers combined. Heart disease causes abnormal conditions that affect the heart and its internal blood vessels.

Lifestyle changes like quitting smoking, eating healthy, increasing physical activity and for new moms, breastfeeding babies can decrease the risk of coronary artery disease and heart attacks.

The national event was founded by the National Heart, Lung & Blood Institute and the American Heart Association

Health Department ‘GO RED’ Posters will be displayed in each clinic and division offices. The entire community is being asked to show its support on February 1 and WEAR RED for Women’s Health.
