PALM
BEACH COUNTY, FL – With
2,865 people living with HIV
in the county and another
estimated 700 undiagnosed,
the Palm Beach County Health
Department has organized
numerous organizations to
assist in getting people
tested on HIV Test Day, June
27.
It’s Better to Know, said Health Department Intervention
Coordinator Rob Scott. Every
year those undiagnosed
people are infecting others.
We need to break this cycle.
Persons should be tested,
added Scott. Once they know
their status they can take
personal preventive measures
that prolong their life and
protect those with whom they
have sexual contact.
Human Immunodeficiency Virus is the virus that causes AIDS,
Acquired Immune Deficiency
Syndrome. The virus is
passed when infected blood,
semen, or vaginal secretions
come in contact with
uninfected broken skin, or
mucous membranes. The virus
can be controlled with a
lifetime of medications.
During HIV Test Day 31 locations will be offering free
testing throughout the
county. Persons can call 211
for times and locations of
these sites or visit the
Palm Beach County Health
Department website at
www.pbchd.com.
