people are invited to the
Gaines Park Recreation
Complex Saturday, October
11, 2008 to participate in
basketball related
activities, win prizes, get
educated and “Slam Dunk”,
Gang Activities, Sexually
Transmitted Diseases,
HIV/AIDS and learn
self-empowerment skills.
Sponsored by the Palm Beach
County Health Department and
other social service
agencies this first time
event will focus on youth
13-24 years old. The main
back drop is three point,
free throw, and slam dunk
competitions that will win
the competitors gift
certificates, school
supplies and other gifts.
Throughout the day, during
the 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
event, representatives from
various agencies will be
offering counseling and
testing for HIV/AIDS,
Hepatitis, and Syphilis;
organizing workshops on
self-empowerment for
individuals and families,
talking about crime
prevention and avoiding gang
related activities. Youth
will be asked to provide
feedback on life
experiences, peer pressures
and family life to community
leaders.
