PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL—Countless
teeth have been saved for
underprivileged teenagers
residing within the county
thanks to the generous work
of nine private endodontist
who donate their services to
the dental program at the
Palm Beach County Health
Department.
The Health Department has a
very high demand for dental
services among the younger
population and is limited in
what preventive and
restorative procedures can
be offered. As a result, the
unique, pro bono “Save a
Molar” referral program was
initiated to preserve teeth
in these children. These
root canal treatments,
offered by endodontists, are
critical procedures that
save teeth and can prevent
many potential problems
relating to early tooth
loss.
“These services provided to
health department patients
attempt to reverse the
mentality that extraction is
the only option when a child
experiences a toothache.
Instead, the volunteer
endodontists promote
maintaining their dentition
and overall oral health,”
said Dr. Jeffrey Albert a
Health Department Dentist
and co-founder of the
program. “By performing a
root canal they can help
make a difference in the
lives of children one tooth
at a time.” The program has
been very successful and was
recently featured in a
national newsletter by the
American Association of
Endodontist (an affiliate of
the
American Dental
Association).
A child in need of root
canal treatment is referred
to the private office of one
of the eight endodontists
who have agreed to
accommodate these children.
All services provided are
free of charge. The parents
have communicated sincere
gratitude for the
outstanding work provided
for their children.
Likewise, the doctors have
expressed great pride and
satisfaction in helping the
underprivileged teenagers.
On Wednesday, July 21 at
8:30 AM the Dental Program
at the Health Department,
800 Clematis Street, West
Palm Beach will be honoring

Beach County.
