The role of Healthy Start

Here at Healthy Start we endeavor to create a seamless
service delivery system from the prenatal period to age three, designed to decrease infant mortality and enhance birth outcomes for residents of Palm Beach
County.

Goals of Healthy Start
|
- Improve pregnancy outcomes.
- Increase the knowledge of mothers with newborns in all areas of parenting.
- Promote prevention and early identification of abuse and/or neglect.
- Provide unduplicated care coordination.
- Provide screening and appropriate referral for developmental delays and to improve infant/child health by encouraging
parents to establish a medical home and begin the immunization process.

Services offered by Healthy Start:

- Nursing home visits to pregnant women with infants for prevention and education.
- Paraprofessional (family support workers) assist nurses with home visiting services and translations.
- Nursing assessments and referrals for services and care coordination.
- Child birth education classes in Spanish.
- Breast-feeding information and support.
- Immunization assessment and referral.
- Parenting classes in Spanish.
- Family Planning education and referral.
- Community education, participation in community events.
- Bus passes.
- Car seat.
